How I passed the AWS DevOps Engineer Professional Exam

Hi Folks, Hope you are staying safe, As I have just passed the AWS DevOps Professional exam recently I just wanted to share the Preparation details which helped me to pass the exam.

As mentioned DevOps Professional comes under Professional certifications, so you need a solid understanding of AWS services particularly Developer tools services, again AWS suggests that At least 2 years of hands-on experience securing AWS workloads.

My Exam Experience

I took the exam in person at a nearby location rather than doing it remotely from my home, via PearsonVUE. The exam took almost two and a half hours out of the three hours allotted, and I found it challenging to focus after the 60-65th question due to a lack of breakfast and a bad headache.

The questions were lengthier compared to the AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate, requiring more reading and remembering the context of the questions. Nevertheless, I passed the exam with a score of 843.

How to Prepare?

When It comes to My preparation, I have been working on AWS for the last three years on different services which help me to gain deeper knowledge on some of the services and some are again new to as No one can work on all AWS services available.

I will go through all the steps I took and explain which ones worked for me:

  1. I have gone through Stephane maarek course to revise the topics (udemy.com/course/aws-certified-devops-engin..) . Actually, Any course is sufficient but I used this to have a solid understanding.

  2. Once you are done with the course, you can have a look at the below White papers and FAQ from the AWS certification website (aws.amazon.com/certification/certified-devo..). Focus on Exam review , White papers section

  3. After that I took Tutorials Dojo- Jon Bonso(https://tutorialsdojo.com/courses/aws-certified-devops-engineer-professional-practice-exams/)practice tests and examtopic practice tests (examtopics.com/exams/amazon/aws-certified-d..), Both will help you to prepare for the exam scenario questions.

So That’s what my preparation for this Exam and I can say every minute that I have spent on this preparation is WORTH.

TIPS & TRICKS

Skim questions quickly and mark for review

There are always nerves at the beginning of an exam. So what I try to do is move quickly. I skim the content of a question and if I’m feeling a little unsure, I quickly mark it for review and move on to the next question.

As you move through an exam, a question or answer will often jog your memory about something you marked for review. I almost always find that the questions I’ve marked for review are easier to answer on the second reading.

Don’t look at the answers first

It’s tempting to look at those multiple choice answers first, but don’t! When I’m reading a question, I think about which AWS services may be relevant before I look at the answers. It will then be difficult to sway me when I do look at the options. This is a good way to sift through and eliminate incorrect answers.

Identify keywords and terms

My most effective time-saving technique is the use of keywords and terms. Does the scenario mention ‘real-time’? That’s very often related to Amazon Kinesis. When you see that keyword, jump to the answers and search for Kinesis. This way, you can quickly eliminate wrong answers.
